She sat on the porch, playing an old guitar.
Casting her spell, under the shining stars
On the banks of Lake Pontchartrain
Black magic, so tragic, she couldn’t be tamed.
A strange love affair, with the people of the town.
The sweet melody enchanted them with the sound.
“On the day that I die”, she sang, “You're all coming, too”
Disaster, her laughter, scared more than a few.
Can you hear me, Julia Brown?
A dark skinned beauty, a jewel of Creole descent.
Her smile lit the night, as she offered up her testament.
The alluring scent of her potions filled the town of Frenier.
Intoxicating, she was waiting, for the end to draw near.
The moon turned red, that night as she breathed her last.
The coroners’ verdict, no suspicions were cast.
Her eyes looked alive they said, her lips wore a smile.
Lightning, so frightening, was witnessed for miles.
Can you hear me, Julia Brown?
Does your spirit still wander this town?
A funeral at dawn, the townspeople gathered there.
At the water’s edge, A block from the old town square
A storm was approaching fast, the sky turned to night.
Smashing, waves crashing, they shook at the sight.
The waves grew higher, the hurricane roared ashore.
They were all swept away, according to the lore.
Julia's casket was found, ten miles from the scene.
Shattered, she was scattered, claimed by the sea.
Can you hear me, Julia Brown?
Does your spirit still wander this town?
Within the cypress groves, under the ground.
With the souls of the faithful, you'll always be bound.
