Another One For The Pile
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
Licking your wounds but they won't heal
The bad end of a dirty deal
Winding your way through the city streets
Clutching your book of worthless receipts
Your wife and kids have left you
Your friends don't come around
Now they've gone and repossessed the jag
Your alone now
Left holding the bag
No one expects the inquisition
You didn't realize your position
Was going to be the weak link in the chain
The high life you were living
Washing down the drain
Depression, recession
Victim of a stealth attack
Watching your life slip away
And you know you will never get it back
They give the knife a another twist
As they shake your hand and smile
Just another casualty
Added to their fucking pile
Licking your wounds but they won't heal
The bad end of a dirty deal
Winding your way through the gritty streets
Clutching your book of worthless receipts
You're down for the count
You decide to cash out
Score some dope from an uptown whore
You max out all your cards
Shots at your at your favorite bars
Then do a swan dive from the twentieth floor

Dig Deep

Dig Deep
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
New York City down by the docks
I remember the line stretched around the block
The middle of winter in thirty five
We were cold, hungry, and barely alive
Two brothers stood waiting their turn
Two kids braving the icy burn
I'll never forget what they did there
When they shuffled up to get their share
From the huge black vat steaming, steaming in the air
An evil looking man with a ladle in hand
Skimmed some broth from the top and filled up their cans
Then the older one he stamped his feet
And yelled "dig deep, get the meat."
Soup man laughed and said move along son
As he opened his jacket to show him his gun
The crowd backed away and tightened again
And a chant started rising above the howling wind
Dig deep, get the meat
Dig deep, get the meat
Dig deep, get the meat
Dig deep, get the meat
The soup guy shot his gun in the air
The crowd rushed forward and took up his dare
They backed him up to the edge of the dock
Then he crashed through the ice as he fell like a rock
He came up once and went under for good
I swear they'd do it again if they could
I'll never forget what they did there
When they shuffled up to get their share
From the huge black vat steaming, steaming in the air

Homeless
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
I asked a preacher to loan me a buck
He told me mister you're out of luck
Just keep on walkin' on down the tracks
keep on goin' and don't come back
The cop on the corner said take a hike
We don't want you here so hit the pike
Just pick up all of your stuff and sail
Unless you want me to throw you in jail
Ain't got no place to call my home
Had a factory job when I was young
Drank too much booze, had too much fun
Was late for work and always tired
Boss man said that's it, you're fired
I lived on the south side under a bridge
In a cardboard box that held a fridge
I was livin' down there with the river rats
Kids came by, smashed it in with bats
Ain't got no place to call my home
It's tough on the streets I take care of myself
Ain't nothin' wrong with my mental health
A warm jacket and a bottle of wine
Is all I need and I'll be fine
A girl from the mission, she brought me a meal
She looked so pretty and I say what I feel
She jammed the food right back in the sack
Called me a bum and took it back
Ain't got no place to call my home
No, I ain’t got no place
Ain't got no place to call my home
All I do is wander and roam
Just hope I find a place to lie
Lay down and die

This Is Our Time

This Is Our Time
Words & Music by RK Watson
These are hard times
The greed of the few put a match to the glue
That held it together
Through stormy weather
This is our time
No money to pay so we’ll take yours away
In their castles they toast
Who has taken the most
These are hard times
The politicians chock while everything’s broke
As they sit in their towers
And while away our hours
This is our time
To young you lack the training he’s too old for retaining
There’s a man across the sea
Better value, smaller fee
The banker counts his dollars
And then he hems and hollers
You must pay the fee
Of this free market economy
He wants us to trust
And contribute to his lust
As he fills his day
With leading us astray
These are hard times
Push the money to the top and let the middle drop
Knock you of the ladder
To make those profits fatter
This is our time
Those behind the curtain keep us all uncertain
As we rise for their bait
Their pulling the strings of our fate
Our profits are grand, but
Surely can understand
You are no longer required
Since we’ve been acquired
Your dreams are trashed
Since the economy crashed
They have blurred what is right
And brought us this blight

The Strange Device

The Strange Device
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
Got myself some money
Went to the liquor store
Last thing I remember
Is going back for more
Woke up this morning
To the smell of strange perfume
The neighbor and her girlfriend
A rhythmic buzzing filled the room
Can't remember where I've been
Or the things I might have done
I know that trouble's coming
She's got her daddies gun
We had barely swept up
All of the wedding rice
When she found the receipt
For a strange device
My friends have seen her driving by
Outside my favorite bar
She's got her Smith & Wesson
Stashed inside that car
Can't remember where I've been
Or the things I might have done
I know that trouble's coming
She's got her daddies gun
This way of living is torturing
Torturing my brain
Sometimes I don't even
Know if I am sane
I got them shakes in the mornin
Can't even hold my glass
I drink it from the bottle
Till the terror has passed
Can't remember where I've been
Or the things I might have done
I know that trouble's coming
She's got her daddies gun

Driven Down Hard
Words and Music by RK Watson
Got me another day of worries
Got me another day of bills
Got me two too many reasons
For a bottle or a pill
Driven down hard
What’s a man to do
That is to say
I’ve been better than I am today
Found me a good women
Found me happiness inside
Found me two too many reasons
To make that woman cry
Driven down hard
What’s a man to do
That is to say
I’ve been better than I am today
Now you may be thinking
That I’ll be comin round
But, I’m here to tell ya
Can’t find up from so far down
Yea, what’s a man to do
That is to say
I’ve been better than I am today
See me lyin, see her tryin
See her filled with contempt
I’ve got two to many reasons
Why I couldn’t meet the rent
Heard me telling her I was sorry
Heard her telling me we were through
Heard her leavin in the morning
And I don’t know what I’ll do
Driven down hard
Yea, what’s a man to do
That is to say
I’ve been better than I am today
That is to say
I’ve been better than I am today
That is to say
I’ve been better than I am today

Julia Brown

Julia Brown
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
She sat on the porch, playing an old guitar.
Casting her spell, under the shining stars
On the banks of Lake Pontchartrain
Black magic, so tragic, she couldn’t be tamed.
A strange love affair, with the people of the town.
The sweet melody enchanted them with the sound.
“On the day that I die”, she sang, “You're all coming, too”
Disaster, her laughter, scared more than a few.
Can you hear me, Julia Brown?
A dark skinned beauty, a jewel of Creole descent.
Her smile lit the night, as she offered up her testament.
The alluring scent of her potions filled the town of Frenier.
Intoxicating, she was waiting, for the end to draw near.
The moon turned red, that night as she breathed her last.
The coroners’ verdict, no suspicions were cast.
Her eyes looked alive they said, her lips wore a smile.
Lightning, so frightening, was witnessed for miles.
Can you hear me, Julia Brown?
Does your spirit still wander this town?
A funeral at dawn, the townspeople gathered there.
At the water’s edge, A block from the old town square
A storm was approaching fast, the sky turned to night.
Smashing, waves crashing, they shook at the sight.
The waves grew higher, the hurricane roared ashore.
They were all swept away, according to the lore.
Julia's casket was found, ten miles from the scene.
Shattered, she was scattered, claimed by the sea.
Can you hear me, Julia Brown?
Does your spirit still wander this town?
Within the cypress groves, under the ground.
With the souls of the faithful, you'll always be bound.

It's Trash Day
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
Well, living with you baby
Ain’t been no vacation
I'm turning you over woman
To the department of sanitation
Well, I've got a lot of garbage
And I done filled up my bin
But, there's still some room on top
And I think I can fit you in
Yeah, it's trash day, baby
You're really getting' on my nerves
Ain't no sense in cryin'
Gonna kick you to the curb
Yeah, I tried to love you baby
But it just ain't no use
You're always driving me crazy
With your lies and abuse
I see the truck is coming
Hear them emptying the cans
You can go and have a party
You and the god damned garbage man
Well, it's trash day, baby
You're really getting on my nerves
Ain't no use in cryin'
Gonna take you to the curb
“Just climb in the pail, baby”
“Things done went south”
“That garbage ain’t nowhere near as foul”
“As the shit comin out your mouth”
You've been telling lies and cheatin'
And treating me like a chump
Maybe I'll come and visit you
Down at the city dump
Maybe I'll just recycle
Cause I've got to prevent
You from contaminating
My whole damn environment
Well, it's trash day, baby
You're really getting on my nerves
Ain't no sense in cryin'
Gonna push you to the curb

Ball That Jack

Ball That Jack
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
Like a bird on the wind, where I land is where I live
It's the way I am, it's something, you could never forgive
I know I've done you wrong, you looked for me but I was long gone
Out there on the road again, for way too long
Carry my life around on my back
Got to keep on movin', got to ball that jack
When I hit the road, don't leave no tracks
Like the evening twilight, as it fades to black
It's time to be movin on, forget and move along
It’s dust on the road, gone, without a trace
Whiskey women and bars, lonely nights underneath the stars
They don't help me at all when I cry and try to forget your face
Carry my life around on my back
Got to keep on movin', got to ball that jack
When I hit the road, don't leave no tracks
Like the evening twilight, as it fades to black
If I get back to this town, woman I'll be around
I'll show you that my love for you baby, is ever so… real
But it's always the same, the road girl, it’s callin out my name
You know the cards are always marked, it’s just the way that I deal
Carry my life around on my back
Got to keep on movin', got to ball that jack
When I hit the road, don't leave no tracks
Like the evening twilight, as it fades to black
Like a freight train barrelin' off the track
The deck I carry is always stacked
I get the feelin', won’t be coming back
Got to move on baby, got to ball that jack
Got to ball that jack….
Got to ball that jack….
Got to ball that jack….

Never Been To Nashville
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
I've never been to Nashville
I've never played in New Orleans
Yeah, I've never been to Nashville
I've never played in New Orleans
Well, I could make the people dance across the floor
Make the women shake it and beg for more
Just like back in the day
When they never heard nothing like it before
I'd love to hop a freight train
And watch the world roll on by
Yeah, I'd love to hop a freight train
And watch the world roll on by
I'd drink a little wine and play my guitar
Just me under the moonlight in an old boxcar
Just like back in the day
When they never heard nothing like it before
I said, give me a second
To the man with the knife
He told me you must be crazy
A second can change your life
A second can change your life
I read the funny papers by the light of the dial
And the music takes me away for just a little while
For just a little while
I've never been to Nashville
I've never played in New orleans
Yeah, I've never been to Nashville
I've never played in New Orleans
Well, I could make the people dance across the floor
Make the women shake it and beg for more
Just like back in the day
When they never heard nothing like it before

Tell It To The River

Tell It To The River
Words and Music by Lamb & Watson
When I was young
My father said to me
Grab your fishing pole
There's something you should see
We walked on down that old dirt road
Then we cut down through the reeds
The widest stretch of river
I think I'd ever seen
Let your troubles with the current run
“Tell it to the river”
River don't care about the bad you've done
“Tell it to the river”
The answers will surely come
“Tell it to the river”
Ease your mind for awhile, my son
A man's got to have his place, he said
To get a little piece of mind
Just get yourself a can of worms
C'mon down here, cast your line
It don't matter if they bite or not
Just take yourself a little time
Watch the river roll on by
Feeling free, it ain’t no crime
Let your troubles with the current run
“Tell it to the river”
River don't care about the bad you've done
“Tell it to the river”
The answers will surely come
“Tell it to the river”
Ease your mind for awhile, my son
And when this world becomes too much to bare
I remember that river and find my way back there
He never bragged about being smart
Just spoke the words that were in his heart
That river is old, the river is wise
The swirling eddies hypnotize
When I’m down and can’t come up for air
And this old life ain't been treating me fair
I think of that river running free
Its waters cleanse the doubts from me
Let your troubles with the current run
“Tell it to the river”
River don't care about the bad you've done
“Tell it to the river”
The answers will surely come
“Tell it to the river”
Ease your mind for awhile, my son
And when I’m lost and I’m feelin down.
My father’s advice always brings me around
And when this world becomes too much to bare
I remember that river and find my way back there
